The Archbishop of U.S. Military Services, Archbishop Timothy Broglio, visited U.S. and Italian armed forces members at Nigerien Air Base 101 in Niamey, Niger, Nov. 3, 2019.
“It’s always a privilege to visit the men and women serving our country, especially in deployed locations,” said Broglio.
At AB 101, Broglio met with and celebrated a Sunday Mass service with U.S. and Italian service members deployed there.
“We very much appreciate Archbishop Broglio coming out to visit our Airmen,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Larry Wright, 768th Expeditionary Air Base Squadron first sergeant. “His presence was a breath of fresh air and will not be forgotten.”
While at the airbase, the archbishop blessed a monument in honor of fallen Italian soldiers for the Italian Armed Forces’ 100th anniversary by invitation of Italian army Brig. Gen. Claudio Dei.
During the trip, the archbishop also visited local Catholic bishops in support of Catholic Relief Services, a charity funding local children’s education and helping displaced refugees in the region.
According to the organization’s fact sheet: Catholic Relief Services partners with people, organizations and governments around the world to end poverty, disease, hunger and injustice. The CRS has been in operation since 1943.
