KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan national army commandos from the 203rd Corps, assisted by coalition forces, destroyed a large weapons cache in Spira District, Khost province, today.
The Afghan-led force was conducting a search and clear operation in the area after local villagers reported the presence of the weapons cache. The team discovered approximately 2,500 rocket-propelled grenades and mortar rounds hidden in a mountainside cave.
Elsewhere, in Chalikor valley, Arghandab District, Zabul province, ANA commandos and soldiers of the 205th Corps discovered 1,100 pounds of opium and 1,600 pounds of ammonium nitrate while conducting clearing operations in an area known for rampant militant activity.
The partnered forces destroyed both the weapons and narcotic caches onsite after ensuring there were no noncombatants in the vicinity.
Not shots were fired during the operations. There were no Afghan military, coalition force or noncombatant casualties at either location.
