CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti – More than 2,000 forward-deployed service members and base personnel attended a bazaar held by local Djiboutian vendors, Dec. 8.
The semi-annual event takes nearly four months to properly prepare, and approximately 20 organizations assisted in the making this bazaar successful. U.S. Army Capt. John Beddoe, event action officer, credits the volunteers for making the bazaar an overall success.
“Looking at the amount of things that needed to happen on the day of the event, it wouldn't have been feasible if we did not have the large amount of volunteers we did,” said Beddoe.
The bazaar typically has an average of 17 to 18 vendors, but due to an increase in popularity, 21 attended. The even generated $41,000 during the five hours it was open.
Attendees also had the opportunity to take pictures with a camel from the Deacon Wildlife Refuge. The camel team braved the rain and helped members take photos, earning more than $500, which will be donated to the refuge.
Camp Lemonnier is an operational installation that enables the U.S., allied, and partner nation forces to be where and when they are needed to ensure security in Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia.
