POZNAN, Poland- The 1st Infantry Division Forward leadership team attended the Polish military Christmas party in Powidz, Poland, on December 11, 2019.
Col. Phil Brooks, 1st Infantry Division Forward commander, and Command Sgt. Major Joshua C. Holthus, 1st Infantry Division command sergeant major, attended the annual event that celebrates Poland’s partnership with allied nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Poland’s Minister of National Defence, Secretary Mariusz Blaszczak, also attended the event. He thanked those in attendance for the continued partnership.
“Today we meet in the circle if our allies, our military family,” he said. “I hope that our Polish hospitality will replace, in a small way, the hospitality from home. You are here to build security of Poland, Europe and the world together, in the spirit of solidarity.”
Roughly 25 nations are currently in Poland conducting military training including Italy, Canada, Germany, France, Great Britain and United States.
Col. Brooks also spoke during the event. He praised both Poland and its military.
“The alliance between Poland and the United States is strong and American service members are proud to serve alongside Polish troops,” he said. “Across the U.S. Army, the Polish Soldiers have a reputation for professional excellence and tenacity in combat and we are honored to be your ally.”
This year marked Poland’s 20th year as a NATO member and its 15th year in the European Union.
