ARDMORE, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma Army National Guard has dedicated its newest readiness center located in Ardmore, Oklahoma at a ribbon cutting ceremony Dec. 16.
Those in attendance for the dedication and ribbon cutting were able to tour the new facility and engage with Ardmore and Oklahoma National Guard leaders.
“What the community of Ardmore has done is committed the Oklahoma National Guard,” said Maj. Gen. Michael Thompson, the adjutant general for Oklahoma. “We are so honored to have that commitment and be part of this community. I am overly proud to be here and be part of this today. This is not something I ever thought we would have when I started in the Oklahoma National Guard 36 years ago.”
The facility, which was designed to meet LEED Silver certification requirements, at a minimum, was built by CMSWillowbrook in partnership with the architecture firm GSB, Inc. The building is more than 82,000 square feet and sits on a nearly 50 acre land parcel. In addition to meeting all federal guidelines for sustainability, the readiness center also meets today’s force protection/anti-terrorism requirements.
Thompson also thanked retired Maj. Gen. Myles Deering for spearheading the project development and land acquisition for the new facility in 2010, when Deering was then adjutant general for Oklahoma. Thompson said the facility is a 100-year commitment to serve the city of Ardmore and surrounding communities.
Mita Bates, Ardmore Development Authority president and CEO, said from concept to completion, the Ardmore Readiness Center is a great story about partnership and commitment between the military, the community of Ardmore and the government authority.
“It’s a great example of what can be done when people work together on one cause,” Bates said. “We are excited to have you in our community and the growth that will be associated with this facility.”
Construction of the $22 million facility was approved in 2017 by the Oklahoma Military Department, in partnership with the State of Oklahoma’s Construction and Properties Division. It is expected to have a lifecycle of 50 years.
Multiple Oklahoma Army National Guard units will use the new facility for training and equipment maintenance as they work to defend our state and nation.
