CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE ADDER, Iraq — Soldiers of 121st Brigade Support Battalion, A Company's supply support activity platoon assumed responsibility of the Brigade Class I food and sustenance site June 1. Their main role is to provide sustenance for Soldiers at various locations throughout Iraq.
As part of their mission, 1st Platoon Soldiers request, receive, store, monitor, organize, inspect, issue and in some instances deliver food and water throughout the battlefield.
"We have the best platoon with the best Soldiers in the battalion. These Soldiers work hard, focus on their task and provide support essential to mission success. We could not ask for a better group of individuals," said 1st Lt. Joseph Olson, Class I platoon leader from Kaysville, Utah.
The platoon motto is "Providing the force, one meal at a time!" Since assuming responsibilities of the food and water site, 1st Platoon has reorganized the placement of food and water, identified all faults within their given equipment to ensure proper use and provided over $100,000 in Class I to support the fight.
"The work we are doing here is different than what we are used to" said Pfc. Thomas Stauffer, an ammunition specialist from Lancaster, Pa. "We are gaining valuable experience and we are all learning new things that will benefit us in the future."
First Platoon plays a pivotal role in the battalion's mission. In the words of their platoon sergeant, Sgt. 1st Class Gustavo Meza from El Paso, Texas, "It will be an exciting and challenging year, and we are looking forward to the role we will play in the battalion's mission."
