TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — The 60th Civil Engineer Squadron won the Squadron of the Year award at the Air Mobility Command level Dec. 14, 2019, at Travis AFB.
“The Maj. Gen. Robert H. Curtin Outstanding Civil Engineer Award is given out to the best civil engineer squadron,” said Lt. Col. Glenn Cameron, 60th CES commander. “We competed in the large (unit) category for this award, which means it was a combination of all six flights’ achievements that have occurred over the year wrapped into one package and won at the Air Mobility Command level.”
“We have won this award two years in a row now, and with this team, I’m confident we will win it again next year too,” said Cameron.
The accomplishments of the 60th CES are second to none, Cameron said.
“We maintain 6,400 acres of land and 1,200 facilities, providing unparalleled support to three wings, 91 organizations and 105,000 active-duty military members and retirees with a budget of $43 million,” said Chief Master Sgt. Cedric Tanner, 60th CES superintendent.
“We also deployed 107 engineers to locations all over the world, developed a seven-year fire alarm system upgrade to protect $550 million in assets, and executed 166 airfield repairs in direct support of 31,000 flights,” said Tanner. “And that’s just scratching the surface of CE contributions to Team Travis this year.”
The 60th CES has six flights featuring 12 Air Force specialties working to accomplish a common goal.
“It’s thanks to the combined efforts of all six of CE’s flights that we won this award,” said Cameron. “The engineering, fire and emergency services, explosive ordnance disposal, emergency management, installation management and operations flights are made up of 659 service members and civilians who work together as a team. No one person won CE this award; it was a team effort.
“The Curtin Award is a reflection of the entire team’s efforts,” said Cameron. “I’m proud to be leading such a hard working group of Airmen and civilians who impress me every day with the great work they do.”
“Civil Engineer Squadrons are doing amazing things across AMC. We are humbled by our selection and look forward to competition at the Air Force level,” Tanner said.
