COLUMBUS, OH- Airmen from all over Ohio gathered in Columbus on January 11, 2020 for the Outstanding Airman of the Year awards ceremony. The Outstanding Airman of the Year awards are used to recognize members who go above and beyond demonstrating leadership, strong work ethic, and commitment to giving back to their communities.
The awards are divided into six categories; Company Grade Officer, Honor Guard Member, First Sergeant, Senior Non-commissioned Officer, Non-Commissioned Officer, and Airman. Each Airman is nominated by their wing and then judged against their peers in the state of Ohio. The winners for each category were as follows:
Company Grade Officer: Captain Adam G. Hermanns from the 178th Wing
Honor Guard: Staff Sgt. Stephanie Briones from the 121st Air Refueling Wing
First Sergeant: Master Sgt. Shawn F. Murray from the 178th Wing
Senior Non-commissioned Officer: Senior Master Sergeant Bryan E. Mech from the 178th Wing
Non-comissioned Officer: Staff Sgt. Kaleb E. Evans from the 178th Wing
Airman: Senior Airman Michael A. Griffin from the 178th Wing
The winners from each category will now compete at the national level against members from all other states as well as the District of Columbia to become the Air National Guard Outstanding Airman of the Year.
