MUSTANG, Okla. -- Soldiers of the 45th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB), Oklahoma Army National Guard, say farewell to their commander, Col. Elmer Holt, during a change of command ceremony and welcome Col. Jason Henry at the Armed Forces Readiness Center, Jan. 11.

Outgoing commander, Holt, or as the civilian world knows him, “Coach Holt,” leaves his formation with fond memories of his time in command.

“Holt was very approachable and understood Soldiers at the lowest level,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Rob Brite, Command Sgt. Maj of the 45th FAB, Oklahoma Army National Guard. “If his subordinates had an idea that you thought needed to be changed Coach Holt was always receptive.

Holt’s mentality as a high school football coach and motivator to Soldiers is what makes Holt a great leader. In true Coach Holt fashion, before taking his leave, he gave Soldiers encouragement for the future.

“Don’t limit yourself, don’t think there are any limits,” said Holt. “If an old hometown boy from Creek County can have the opportunity to lead a brigade, then anyone can.”

Holt’s 34-year career includes deploying overseas and supporting missions such as Operation Noble Eagle as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom all while leading Soldiers to be the best they can be.

Much like his predecessor, incoming commander Col. Jason Henry has a rich background with the military. Henry has mobilized via Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and supported Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

Taking command of more than 800 Soldiers, Henry plans to continue the legacy of this decorated and accomplish brigade.

“It's all about readiness for the future and it's up to us to maintain that,” says Henry. “I am excited to serve in this organization with you again, Red Thunder.”
