NAPLES, Italy – Naval Facilities Engineering Command Europe Africa Central (NAVFAC EURAFCENT) Commanding Officer Capt. Jeffrey Kilian presented two awards Jan. 14, aboard Naval Support Activity Naples, recognizing David Vanlanen as the 2019 Supervisor Civilian of the Third Quarter and Lucas Twilley as the 2019 Senior Civilian of the Third Quarter.
“It is important that we recognize our employees who go above and beyond what is requested of them and the Employee of the Quarter awards program is one of the many tools we can use to let our civilian workforce and the command as a whole know what great things they are doing for us,” said Kilian.
Vanlanen was recognized for superior performance as the Interim Total Force Director where he served a critical function for the Command. During a time when the department was understaffed by 50%, he ensured personnel support requirements, hiring actions and the Commnad training program were effectively managed.
His personal drive lead to the success of updating the NAVFAC Leadership Develop Program policy to allow local hire spouse eligibility and the processing of year end awards resulting in recognizing 50 personnel across the Command to fully leverage the awards budget.
Twilley was recognized while serving as the Civil Engineer Technical Discipline Coordinator for incredible innovation executing a multiple project delivery contract in less than 20 days totaling $25.3 million in construction. His quick product delivery was matched with excellent quality that allowed the command to pursue mission critical repairs before fiscal year funding expired. Also, he supported 80 engineering projects as the only civil engineer on staff due to vacancies. His ability to balance a diverse and expansive workload illustrates professionalism, engineering expertise and leadership that is of immense value to the command.
“Both of these gentlemen display incredible initiative, perseverance and devotion to their jobs and our mission,” said Kilian. “I am proud of our entire team. They continue to show me how driven they are to perform and serve with Honor, Courage and Commitment.”
