EASTOVER, S.C. - U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers with the 678th Air Defense Artillery (ADA) Brigade, South Carolina National Guard, conducted training on the Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelter (DRASH), Nov. 16, 2019, at the readiness center in Eastover, South Carolina.
Soldiers received hands-on training on the use of the DRASH, which is utilized in a deployed environment because of its mobile and lightweight capabilities.
U.S. Army Sgt. Timothy Limehouse, 678th ADA training noncommissioned officer, stated, “Without the DRASH system, our brigade headquarters field operations capabilities would be difficult.”
The DRASH system is new to the 678th ADA and will be the primary shelter option for the South Carolina National Guard Soldiers who are preparing for their upcoming Mission Command Element 2020 deployment.
U.S. Army Spc. Eric Bilyard, 678th ADA battle management systems operator, said, “Learning how to use this shelter system afforded me the opportunity to work with the Polish military who also utilized similar interoperable shelter systems overseas.”
The 678th ADA’s use of the DRASH assists not only in strengthening relations with foreign countries, but also drastically improves operations by allowing rapid deployment of brigade headquarters in a field environment. The 678th ADA BDE strives to utilize innovative systems that meets the needs of the brigade as well as strengthens their capabilities in meeting their overall mission.
