DUQM, Oman – The guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) hosted the commanding officer and members of the wardroom from the Indian Naval Ship INS Sumedha on Jan. 19.
Capt. Chris Stone, USS Normandy commanding officer, hosted Cmdr. Soumyajit Mohanty, Sumedha’s commanding officer, leading him on a personal tour and explaining Normandy’s capabilities.
“It is always a pleasure to host delegations from other nations, increasing partnership and sharing common experiences are one of many ways we can bring two nations closer,” said Stone.
When speaking about the importance of those relationships Stone said both nations were working to ensure the free flow of commerce and maritime security in the region.
While Stone led Mohanty on a tour, Normandy’s crew led a tour for approximately 15 officers of the INS Sumedha.
USS Normandy, homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, is deployed to the U.S. Fifth Fleet area of operations as part of a scheduled deployment.
