ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England – The 48th Force Support Squadron Airmen and Family Readiness Center hosts a monthly dinner for families of deployed Airmen.
The recurring event gives spouses and children an opportunity to build a support system with other families dealing with separation.
“It’s about connecting families with the various resource agencies they can utilize during the difficult times, as well as other families who are in a similar situation,” said Master Sgt. Nicholas Beebe, AFRC readiness non-commissioned officer. “Being away from a loved one is difficult so it’s important for them to know they are not alone.”
Events like this provide an outlet for children and spouses to socialize and connect with other families in a similar situation, and meet with Liberty Wing leadership.
“It’s an open forum to talk freely with other spouses that are not going to look at you as a sympathy case because they are right there with you,” said Serena Ruckert, a 48th Security Forces Squadron key spouse. “The volunteers and leadership know that things are tough and they want you to be able to relax for an evening. I am thankful for this event and I know many others are and many will continue to be.”
