FORT CARSON, Colo.- Pennsylvania National Guard Soldiers and Airmen attended the National Guard Domestic Operations Workshop hosted by the National Guard Bureau here last month, with an Air National Guard member serving as an expert on a panel.
The annual workshop brings together domestic operations professionals from around the country to learn about new initiatives and exchange ideas. Timothy Sevison, also serves as the deputy director for response at the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and as a chief master sergeant in the Pennsylvania National Guard spoke on a panel with other emergency management executives.
The panel Sevison spoke on focused on about issues senior domestic response professionals face and solutions they have developed to overcome them.
"The National Guard is a key partner is disaster preparedness and response and the conference was a tremendous opportunity to discuss ways we can continue to collaborate in the increasingly complex disaster environment," said Sevison.
The Pennsylvania National Guard, like all National Guards, has a dual purpose, to support the governor of their state during domestic emergencies, like natural disasters and the president during times of federal call-ups. It is one of the largest and most deployed National Guards in the nation and headquartered at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. When responding to domestic emergencies, the Pennsylvania National Guard works with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, U.S. Northern Command and dozens of federal, state and local agencies.
The Pennsylvania National Guard maintains a joint operations center at Fort Indiantown Gap staffed by Pennsylvania Guard members 24/7 that support its domestic mission.
