FORT CARSON, Colo. — Army Community Service (ACS) at Fort Carson officially renamed one of its predominant facilities recently. What was formerly known as the Soldier and Family Assistance Center (SFAC), building 7492 near Titus Boulevard and Sheridan Avenue, is now known as the ACS Annex.

Several factors went into renaming the facility, a former child development center that was constructed in 2010 and features a modern architecture with abundant natural light, spacious meeting areas, vaulted ceilings, classrooms and playgrounds.

As part of the transition, ACS’s Family Nurturing Center moved into the building from its former offices in building 1354.

“The ACS Annex just has better amenities for children,” said Rhea Rollman, ACS social science program specialist and annex director. “The Family Nurturing Center staff moved over in mid-December and started its program service Jan. 6, 2020. Since then, we’ve seen a vast improvement in the number of Families coming to the Family Nurturing Center.”

Additional facility moves are planned for ACS in the months to come. The moves are an effort to modernize facility spaces and provide welcoming spaces for Soldiers and Families.

“This action is part of our space utilization plan,” said Kristen Kea, ACS division chief. “It will allow us to realign our services and put our Family Nurturing Center in close proximity to housing. And since its in the Evans (Army Community Hospital) footprint, it will make it easier for parents to find.”

Kea indicated ACS services at Fort Carson will transition from five buildings, down to three and will announce additional realignment steps soon. The organization has already closed its ACS Community Connections, building 1524, and moved staff into the main ACS, building 1526.
