BREMERTON, Wash. – Three Navy employees were recognized by Leadership Kitsap during the 20 Under 40 Awards ceremony Jan. 30, at the Kitsap Conference Center.
Jennifer Kirchner, Naval Base Kitsap Fleet and Family Support Center counselor advocate generalist, and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility employees Titus Woodson and Michelle Berger were of 20 business leaders under the age of 40 honored for making impacts in business, philanthropy, and their communities.
The honorees were selected from a nomination pool of more than 100 candidates.
“Tonight is one of my favorite nights of the year when we celebrate the remarkable people who are making a massive impact right here in Kitsap County,” said U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer, of Washington’s 6th Congressional District in a video greeting. “The people in this room are doing big things: helping entrepreneurs building new businesses, helping to employ people throughout Kitsap County, helping to protect our Sailors, and helping to transform our community. The work you are doing inside your jobs and even in your free time really matters. Thank you for investing in your community.”
Katie Walters, Leadership Kitsap executive director, kicked off the event with an opening speech, and Kristina Bright took the reigns as the event’s master-of-ceremonies and recognized the honorees by articulating how their impacts have made a positive effect on the community.
“Since 2005, our community has been recognizing the contribution of dynamic young leaders of the business community,” Bright said. “You dine in their restaurants, conduct business with them, sit on philanthropic boards with them, solve conflicts and community problems with them and run organizations with them. They have an innovative entrepreneurial spirit that propels our Kitsap County economy today and will for years to come.”
Kirchner was nominated in 2018 by Britt Feldman, the NBK Fleet and Family Support director at the time.
“It’s very exciting to be honored tonight for my commitment to service members, their families and my colleagues,” Kirchner said. “One of my goals is connecting and informing Navy families of the resources available from the Navy and the community. I’m grateful to be acknowledged in the larger community. I thank the people who nominated me. They’ve been nothing but supportive and I’m very grateful. It’s a true honor to be acknowledged by them.”
Navy Fleet and Family Support Centers aid individual and family readiness through a full array of programs and resources, which help Navy families to be resilient, well-informed, and adaptable to the Navy environment.
