Polish Soldiers, assigned to the 15th Mechanized Infantry Brigade, and multinational Soldiers, assigned to the enhanced Forward Presence NATO Battle Group-Poland, finished a computer stimulated staff assisted exercise, the Łasica 20, in Orzysz, Poland, Feb. 7, 2020.

BG-P participated in a training event with the 15th MIB known as Łasica. Lasica 20 is a command post exercise that employs computer software to simulate fictitious scenarios for the Polish and NATO forces by conducting a defense and counterattack against enemy forces.

During the exercise, commanders and staff from the 15th MIB and BG-P developed plans, gave orders, tested communications systems and refined battle tracking.

BG-P functioned as one of the 15th MIB's maneuver battalions in the simulated tactical exercise. American, Croatian, British and Romanian Soldiers from the BG-P simulated the employment of platoons, troops and batteries on the battlefield, while taking orders and guidance from Polish Army Col. Bogdan Rycerski, commander, assigned to the 15th MIB.

The gathering also served as the transfer of authority between commanders of the 1st Mechanized Battalion, also known as the Mazowieckie Cavalry, and the 2nd Mechanized Battalion.

U.S. Army Lt. Col. Andrew Gallo, commander, assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment, stated,“Łasica 20 is an incredible opportunity for Battle Group-Poland to enhance its integration and interoperability with the 15th Mechanized Brigade.”

“As a part of BG-P, we were providing indirect fire support in Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation with our Multiple Launch Rocket Systems,” said Croatian Army 1st Lt. Josip Peco, fire support officer, assigned to Storm Battery.

“This exercise was a really good opportunity for increasing the interoperability among all the nations which are part of BG-P and also with the host nation of Poland. We learned new things about our allies, their weapons, tactics and procedures.”
