GRAFENWOEHR, Germany —The 7th Army Training Command (7ATC) hosted the Conference of European Training Centers (CETC), the first one since 2018, at the Tower View Conference Center, here, Feb. 11-13, 2020.
The CETC was a chance for 28 of the NATO allies and partner countries from all over Europe including Greece, UK, France, Poland, and more to build a network of training centers, gather information about what was learned during each nation’s training events, while sharing advice with one another to help each other become a stronger force.
“CETC is a way for leaders across Europe to get together and work towards integration and interoperability between our training centers,” said Capt. Vladimir Morozov, an exercise planner for the 7ATC. “The people who are coming are decision makers so if they hear something they like, they can choose to adapt their training right then and there.”
The events of the conference included panel discussions and breaking into small groups to talk about Fully Enabled Training Areas versus Combat Training Centers (CTC), CTC capabilities and training methodology, current national CTC challenges and opportunities, and the future of European CTCs. The ideas and experiences shared here won’t just allow the individual armies to perform better on their own but will also help them work together in joint, multinational operations.
“Being here in Europe, it’s really important for us to work with our multinational allies,” said Maj. Eric Hamilton, the Multinational Engagements Branch Chief for the 7ATC. “Every year we branch out across Europe to do training, so it’s important for us to share our best lessons learned with other countries - and learn from their best lessons learned too.”
Training events and conferences like the CETC are what helps build relationships between nations and keep Europe’s defenses strong.
