Kidd Arrives in Guam for Port Visit

APRA HARBOR (NNS) - The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Kidd (DDG 100) arrived in Guam for a port visit Feb. 14.
During the port visit, Kidd Sailors will participate in community service projects for various organizations in the area. The projects will give Kidd Sailors the opportunity to interact with local citizens while volunteering in the community.
“These projects add a deeper meaning to the port visit beyond the memories made with shipmates,” said Cmdr. Matt Noland, executive officer of Kidd. “They help to demonstrate - in their own small way - the goodwill and cooperative spirit of the United States of America.”
Approximately 350 Sailors will be in Guam during the port visit, including some Sailors from Guam, like Senior Chief Culinary Specialist Pam O’Neil and Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Carolyn Warren.
“I feel excited and humbled”, said O’Neil. “I am waiting to see family members, to talk about the good old days, and to laugh and cherish every moment.”
Sailors will also be able to experience the culture of the region, go shopping and go sightseeing during their visit.
“I haven’t seen my hometown in 20 years,” said Warren. “Guam is a beautiful island that offers a lot of possibilities for fun, relaxation, culture, good hospitality and good island food. Most of all the scenery is phenomenal.”
Kidd will also use the in port time to complete routine maintenance that will allow the ship to maintain a forward presence in the Indo-Pacific.
Kidd is currently deployed with the Theodore Roosevelt Strike Group, conducting maritime security operations to enhance partnerships and contribute to stability in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
