ULSA –State Highway 71, which traverses Eufaula Dam, will close for replacement of the bridge, March 20.
The $20 million project is funded by the State of Oklahoma, the Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Highway Administration, with Oklahoma providing $11 million of funding.
During construction use the following as a state highway detour during the bridge closure. Northbound - From Junction of SH 71 and SH 9, proceed east on SH 9 to Junction SH 9/SH 2, then north on SH 2 to SH 71. First responders and emergency management for the impacted counties have been notified.
Public access to the dam and construction zone will be closed to public during repairs. All public use areas, including the North and South fishing areas and ORV will remain open to the public.
Repairs are not expected to impact hydroelectric generation, lake levels or potential flood control operations.
The bridge is expected to reopen March 2023. Completion of construction is contingent upon weather and other factors.
We understand the inconvenience during this time of closure and appreciate the public’s cooperation in avoiding these areas affected by the construction.
Questions regarding the bridge replacement or the public restrictions can be addressed to Stacey Reese at 918-669-7380.
