DALLAS – From one kind of troop to another—the Army & Air Force Exchange Service is helping service members overseas satisfy their craving for Girl Scout cookies.

The Exchange shipped more than 216,000 boxes of the famed cookies to the Department of Defense retailer’s distribution centers in Europe and the Pacific Region. From there, Girl Scout troops at 31 installations received the cookies to sell to their military community at their local Exchange stores.

“There are a lot of logistics that go into moving that many cookies overseas,” said Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Luis Reyes, the Exchange’s senior enlisted advisor. “It’s important to the Exchange not only to help our service members enjoy a taste of home, but also to help military children who are in Girl Scouts participate in the fun of selling cookies and raising funds for their troops.”

The Exchange has facilitated special shipments of the cookies overseas for more than 20 years. The Exchange and Girl Scout troops at installations overseas start working together in October to prepare for the January-March selling season.

“It’s a treat for us to be a part of this process,” said Nick DeVincenzo, manager of the Exchange’s Pacific distribution center, which received the cookies before delivering to 13 installations in Japan and Korea. “The Girl Scouts here, as well as the military community, are so excited and grateful to be able to participate in this special American tradition.”
