MILWAUKEE (NNS) – A partnership between the AHL Milwaukee Admirals hockey team and Navy Recruiting District Chicago made for an evening of great gamesmanship as well as a chance to show off some Navy pride.

During half time between the Milwaukee Admirals and the Rockford Ice Hogs, Vice Admiral (ret) Dirk Debbink, a native of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, administered the Oath of Enlistment to thirty future United States Navy Sailors followed by a standing ovation from the assembled crowd of more than 9000 hockey fans.

In his remarks Debbink told the future Sailors they were on the edge of becoming part of an elite group.

“You, your families, and your friends should be proud of the person that you have become,” Debbink said. “You are seizing the first of many opportunities that will lead to a fulfilling life, centered upon honor, courage and commitment.”

Debbink also dropped the ceremonial game puck and along with Navy Recruiting District commanding officer, Commander Joshua Jones, presented a plaque to the Milwaukee Admirals president John Greenberg in appreciation for hosting Navy Night at the Panther Arena in Milwaukee.

Navy Recruiting Command consists of a command headquarters, two Navy Recruiting Regions, 15 Navy Recruiting Districts and 11 Navy Talent Acquisition Groups that serve more than 815 recruiting stations across the world. Their combined goal is to attract the highest quality candidates to assure the ongoing success of America’s Navy.
