GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Feb. 27, 2020) – Naval Station Great Lakes announced their Civilians of the Year in an awards ceremony February 7, 2020.
Ken Wagner, from Kenosha, Wisconsin, was named Supervisor Civilian of the Year for Great Lakes. Wagner works for Unaccompanied Housing as the operations manager.
“It is very nice and it is an honor being recognized by my peers,” said Wagner.
Wagner is responsible for tracking maintenance in the barracks. He has been working in unaccompanied housing for two years where he identifies deficiencies in buildings and either repairs them or submits jobs to have them repaired. Before working for the base, Wagner retired from the Navy as a master chief hull technician after 30 years. He served two tours aboard Naval Station Great Lakes, wherein he gained experience with the daily operation of the dormitories.
“This experience in the Navy enabled me to carry this skill set over to my civilian job here in UH,” said Wagner. “My job is fun and rewarding. I enjoy taking care of our Sailors.”
