    Brandon O’Connor currently serves as the assistant editor of The Pointer View newspaper at the U.S. Military Academy. He has held the position since August 2018.

    In his current position, O’Connor serves as the main content creator for the weekly newspaper writing three to four articles a week as well as taking photos. He covers events throughout the academy and writes feature articles on cadets, officers and programs at the academy.

    O’Connor received honorable mention Keith L. Ware awards last year for feature article and news photo.

    Prior to joining the staff at West Point, O’Connor served as a general assignment reporter for the daily newspaper The Vicksburg Post in Vicksburg, Mississippi. While at The Vicksburg Post, his main beat was covering education. He also covered breaking news, wrote a weekly column and contributed frequent feature stories for the newspaper and a bimonthly magazine.

    For his work in Vicksburg, O’Connor was awarded first place in the breaking news category during the 2018 Louisiana-Mississippi AP awards. He was also recognized by the Mississippi Press Association in 2018 with first-place awards in the in-depth coverage and planned series categories.

    O’Connor started his journalism career as a reporter at the twice-weekly newspaper The Post-Searchlight in Bainbridge, Georgia. While there, he covered a variety of topics, including city council and the board of education as well as the crime beat and local sports. He also contributed regular feature stories to two quarterly magazines: Bainbridge Living and Rifle & Rod.

    O’Connor was recognized by the Georgia Press Association in 2017 with the first- and second-place awards for feature writing. He also received a first-place award for news photo that year.

    O’Connor graduated from Florida State University in December 2013 with a degree in Media/Communication Studies.
