KABUL, Afghanistan — An International Security Assistance Force service member was killed yesterday as a result of an improvised explosive device strike in southern Afghanistan.
"Yesterday was a sad day for all of the 42 nations of ISAF that are committed together in this fight against the enemies of Afghanistan. On behalf of all of us, I express my heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and comrades of this fallen service member." said Brig. Gen. Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson.
"This is a hard and difficult campaign, especially in the south where the insurgents, incapable of facing ISAF forces head on, continue to employ cruel and indiscriminate IEDs that also kill or injure many innocent Afghans."
It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
Next of kin have been informed.
