WIESBADEN, Germany -- U.S. Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment (General Support), continue to deliver critical supplies to geographically dispersed units.
The team has done work across Europe delivering cargo including critical health and safety supplies like disinfectants in support of multiple units.
“Yesterday we flew medical supplies from here to Constanta, Romania,” said to Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jeff Von Voigtlander from Echo Company, 1st Bn, 214th Aviation Regt. (GS).
The crews obtain permissions through the proper channels and in coordination with local authorities to conduct missions on a case-by-case basis.
Von Voigtlander said coordination with host nations is the only way to get the supplies where they are needed.
Along with cargo, they also transport passengers as approved by the exceptions authorized by Department of Defense guidance.
“This past Sunday we took a flight-doc to Kosovo, and the week before in Naples, we did a [casualty evacuation] flight,” Von Voigtlander said. “So we took a person needing medical aid out of Naples to Landshtul because he wasn’t able to [get the required care locally] but he was able to get the treatment here in Germany.”
The transported patients were not COVID-19 patients. Crew members are eager to continue providing this service to those in need.
“It gives us a lot of morale support knowing we are the ones able to deliver the necessary supplies,” Von Voigtlander said.
