PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – Col. David Stewart, deputy commander for operations, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 20 for appointment to the rank of brigadier general.
In his current position, Stewart provides oversight of all USASMDC operations to include planning, training, certification and readiness for all command operational forces and select operating functions. It also encompasses oversight of three brigades, the Army astronaut detachment, satellite communications system expert, joint friendly forces tracking, radar support to space and intelligence operations and the Operational Command Post when activated.
Some of Stewart’s recent assignments include serving as chief of staff, U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; commander, U.S Army 2nd Recruiting Brigade in Huntsville, Alabama; chief of staff, U.S. Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Jerusalem; and assistant commandant, Air Defense Artillery School.
Lt. Gen. Daniel L. Karbler, commanding general, USASMDC, said Stewart deserves this promotion.
“He consistently demonstrates the honesty, integrity and resourcefulness of a good leader, all while ensuring the uninterrupted continuity of command operations,” Karbler said. “That makes him not just a true asset to this command, but also to the Army as a whole.”
