With the rise of COVID-19 cases around the world, many people are taking precautions to help stop the spread of the virus.
The Marines with Security and Emergency Services Battalion on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton have taken their own precautions to help prevent the spread to service members on base.
“Our mission has not changed, and how we operate has not changed as well,” said Jonathan Gibbs, a civilian police officer with the Provost Marshal’s Office. “What has changed is the proper gear we wear to handle situations.”
The military police are wearing gloves and not touching identification cards as base patrons drive though the gates to enter the base.
Paramedics and firefighters are also taking precautions to handle situations for people who possibly have COVID-19 symptoms.
“We have taken extra precautions to wear N95 surgical masks, goggles and gowns when it comes to certain calls,” said Cory Lofgren, a firefighter with the Camp Pendleton Fire Department.
The emergency services on Camp Pendleton are continuing to work around the clock to ensure the base community is safe and protected.
“We want to let the families know that we are here 365 days a year and we will continue our mission to protect the community on Camp Pendleton,” said Lofgren.
Lofgren said that one of the best ways the base community can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to practice social distancing at all times, sanitizing commonly touched surfaces, regularly washing hands and to call ahead to the hospital or first responders if experiencing flu-like symptoms.
