KABUL, Afghanistan — A joint Afghan and international security force searched a compound in Ghazni province last night. The compound was used by a known Taliban facilitator responsible for supplying weapons and ammunition to local militants for attacks against Afghan and international security forces in the area.
The force searched the compound near the village of Jahangir Kalay, southwest of the city of Ghazni, after intelligence indicated militant activity. During the search, militants engaged the force, and the force returned fire, killing several enemy combatants. The search continued and the force confiscated multiple AK-47 rifles, one PKM machine gun and grenades. All weapons were destroyed in place.
Ghazni province has seen increasing Taliban violence as militants seek to disrupt governance and security in the region. Taliban commanders continually seek to establish strongholds in the province to facilitate the movement of fighters, explosives and weapons into the country.
There were no ANA, international security forces or civilian casualties during the incident.
