Guard members from several areas in Florida arrive to form Joint Task Force Aide (JTFA) assisting with the COVID-19 response. Soldiers and Airmen checked them in and provided them with information pertaining to their upcoming mission.

To accomplish this, units from the Army and Air Guard activated a Joint Reception, Staging, Onward Movement, and Integration (JRSOI) site. At the JRSOI location set up at a their hotel in Miami Beach, approximately 90 Soldiers and Airmen from four different Medical Service Corps were in-processed to support JTFA’s mission.

"By setting up the JRSOI and providing accountability for Soldiers and Airmen coming into the area of operation we ensure a smooth transition for soldiers coming into our area of operations,” said Maj. Michael George Jr., 50th Regional Support Group S1. “Currently there are medics, nurses, doctors and physician assistants arriving to support the alternate care facility.”

The role of the JRSOI during emergencies like the COVID-19 response is to provide a central location for all Soldiers, Airmen and civilians to be briefed on the situation in the area of operation, conduct personnel accountability, and ensure that they are properly equipped to perform their tasks.

“We are supporting the personnel coming in, laying a foundation and ensuring accountability,” said Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Andrew Lamb, 125th Logistics Readiness Squadron. “We are adaptable and evolving to ensure Soldiers and Airmen can accomplish their upcoming mission.”

In partnership with the state of Florida, the Army Corps of Engineers began transforming the 500,000 square Miami Beach Convention Center into a 450-bed alternate care facility last Tuesday. It is expected that the facility will be ready by April 21.

The Florida National Guard has over 2,000 Guardsmen on duty in support of Florida’s COVID-19 response, they are operating eight Community Based Test Sites and have administered over 44,000 sample collections.
