BISMARCK, N.D. — The North Dakota National Guard Foundation received a $5,000 donation, July 23, from TriWest Healthcare Alliance for the construction of the "North Dakota Memorial to the Fallen of the Global War on Terrorism". This donation is the single largest contribution in support of the memorial to date.

Representatives of TriWest Healthcare Alliance, Mr. Don Jenn and Mr. Donald. L. Brown, formally presented the check to Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, adjutant general for the North Dakota National Guard, at the Guard's headquarters at Fraine Barracks.

Jenn, speaking on behalf of TriWest CEO Dave McIntyre Jr. said that "TriWest is proud to continue its tradition of supporting our nation's defenders."

The memorial, a joint venture between the city of Bismarck and the North Dakota National Guard, is dedicated to the North Dakota service members who sacrificed their lives in the cause of freedom from terror following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on our Nation. It will be located outside of the North Dakota National Guard headquarters' main entrance at Fraine Barracks.

"The North Dakota National Guard Foundation is extremely grateful not only to TriWest for their generosity, but to all the citizens and businesses that have contributed to this important memorial honoring our fallen heroes, said Sprynczynatyk. "We will never forget their sacrifices and service to our nation."

During the past July 4th celebrations at the North Dakota State Capitol grounds, the Bismarck Mandan Symphony led efforts to collect over $2,000 in contributions from citizens celebrating American Independence Day. Other major business donors to this project are: Tesoro Refining and Marketing Company, Mandan, N.D., Starion Financial, Bismarck, N.D., Nodak Sportsmens Club, Bismarck, N.D., Midway Lanes, Mandan, N.D., Leevers Foods, Devils Lake, N.D., Last Call Bar, Mandan, N.D., Dakota West Energy LLC, Mandan, N.D., Dakota Gasification Company, Bismarck, N.D., Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Bismarck, N.D., and Amvets Post #9, Bismarck, N.D.

In addition to the above major business donors more than 250 businesses or individuals have graciously donated to help build the "North Dakota Memorial to the Fallen of the Global War on Terrorism".

The following businesses are contributing materials and labor to the effort: Bismarck Excavating, Northwest Contracting Inc., Bismarck, Mandan Steel Fabricators, Mandan, Metal Arts Co., Mandan and Strata Corporation, Bismarck and Mandan. Kadrmas Lee and Jackson, Bismarck, is leading the memorial's design efforts.

The memorial is funded by private donations through the North Dakota National Guard Foundation which is a non-profit organization. The estimated cost of construction, about $50,000, has been donated or pledged. All future donations will be used for the upkeep and maintenance of the memorial.

The dedication ceremony is scheduled on Sept. 11, 2009 at 9:37 a.m., the exact time that American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
