The National Military Fish and Wildlife Association acknowledged the Camp Pendleton Resource Enforcement Compliance Section for their hard work in maintaining the environmental security on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton on March 12, 2020 with an award in the Natural Resource Conservation Management and Enforcement category.
The National Military Fish and Wildlife Association communicates, informs, and coordinates with professionals across the Department of Defense to protect natural resources while supporting the military mission through sustainable resource conservation.
"We made several changes in recent years and we are starting to get some huge payoffs this year," said Michael Tucker, chief game warden, MCB Camp Pendleton. Enforcing environmental regulations on the installation has made for considerable progress in keeping conservation efforts at a maximum. This is in large part due to the section’s ability to keep trespassers out of delicate habitats, which has a significant impact on the wildlife.
The award signifies the success experienced by the Resource Enforcement Compliance Section. By utilizing the latest tools available, they are able to accomplish their mission. Through working with the community and units on base, the team ensures the safety of the installation’s environment.
"I love my job because we have a fantastic community that we work with. It allows us to plan regular outreach activities and do things that other game warden offices can’t, such as organize special hunts for our wounded veterans and youth hunters,” said Tucker.
The section also conducts special habitat restoration for hunting and fishing areas. Through activities like a beach cleanup, the participants get to perform a service and at the same time see how the installation fits into the environment.
Receiving this level of acknowledgment signifies that the work of the section is deemed successful by the National Military Fish and Wildlife Association. It also signifies that the methods can be used as an example to other groups working to maintain environmental security.
"This award shows that what the base is doing in regards to environmental protection is nationally recognized as correct," said Tucker.
This is the section’s first time receiving the award from the National Military Fish and Wildlife Association. Through continuing these efforts on Camp Pendleton, the section works everyday to ensure that it is not their last.
