Headquarters Marine Corps released Marine Administrative Message 007/20 April 20, discussing changes to the timeline for mandatory possession of the new female blue dress coat.
The MARADMIN modifies the timeline for mandatory possession of the uniform previously established by MARADMIN 596/18, for a select group of Marines. The old message stated the current women's blue dress coat and white shirt would be deemed obsolete Sept. 30, 2022. The date for the mandatory possession of the new uniform was set for Oct. 1, 2022.
The new MARADMIN declares that Marines with current contracts - or who will begin terminal leave in conjunction with their retirement - that end on or before Jan. 1, 2023, are waived the requirement to own the new female blue dress coat by Oct. 1, 2022, and may continue to wear their current female blue dress coat until Jan. 1, 2023.
“I am choosing not to buy the new coat,” said Lance Cpl. Daniela Garibay-Tejeda, a supply administration and operations specialist with Bravo Company, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. “The option to buy the new coat is important because it gives the Marines a choice to choose their history.”
MARADMIN 007/20 also deemed it appropriate for Marines retiring or leaving active service prior to Dec. 1, 2022, to choose which version of the uniform they wear to eligible events as veterans.
For the direct guidance, reference MARADMINS 596/18 and 007/20.
