KABUL, Afghanistan - A joint Afghan and international security force searched a compound last night, July 26, in Khost province known to be frequented by a Haqqani improvised explosive device facilitator responsible for attacks against Afghan and international security forces in the region.
The joint force searched the compound near the village of Majles, north of the city of Khost, after intelligence indicated militant activity. A search was conducted of the compound without incident and seven suspected militants were detained, one of which was the IED facilitator.
The Haqqani network is a criminal organization which conducts operations in conjunction with other Islamic militant groups with similar goals and interests. The network focuses operations against the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Afghan national security forces, and seeks to expel international security forces from Afghanistan to maintain its influence in eastern provinces.
There were no Afghan, international security forces or civilian casualties during the incident.
ISAF is a key component of the international community's engagement in Afghanistan, assisting the Afghan authorities in providing security and stability and creating the conditions for reconstruction and development.
