FRESNO AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Calif. - Air National Guard drill status guardsmen, both enlisted and officers, will be able to apply for the Federal Tuition Assistance program starting this fall.
California's Air National Guard wings will be part of the 24 wings across 14 states and territories to take part in a three-year tuition assistance pilot program starting on Aug. 1, 2020.
The FTA program is the same tuition assistance program active duty Airmen use to get up to $4,500 per fiscal year towards an undergraduate or graduate degree.
Even though there are several months prior to the start of the upcoming college school year, drill status guardsmen need to ensure that they have registered for an Air Force Virtual Education Center account before Aug. 1.
"They can register for an account at https://afvec.us.af.mil/afvec/Home.aspx," said Master Sgt. Barbara Clark, 144th Fighter Wing tuition assistance counselor. "They can also navigate to the site through the AF portal. If they’ve already registered and can log into their account, they will need to review their information for currency and accuracy."
The AFVEC website will be the place Airmen will apply for FTA, complete the required Virtual TA Benefits Training and check to see if their school of choice is eligible to receive FTA.
You can contact your unit's Force Development Office for more information regarding the FTA program and how to access the AFVEC website.
