FORT BLISS, Texas -- The 859th Engineer Company stationed in Pascagoula, Mississippi, safely redeployed to Fort Bliss, Texas, after a nine-month deployment to Iraq and Syria, May 19.
The 859th Engineer Company, a U.S. Army National Guard out of Pascagoula, Mississippi, deployed to Southwest Asia for a nine-month deployment in support of U.S. Central Command throughout Syria and the NATO Training Mission-Iraq last summer where they conducted construction and base camp development multinational partner and allied military units.
Lt. Col. Charles Montgomery, 123rd Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, presented coins to 1st Sgt. Felice Rubino, SFC Sara Torres, Staff Sgt. Zack Sims, Sgt. DeAnthony Wells, and Spc. Timothy Martin in light of the positive impact they had on the 859th Engineer Co. mission.
“Reserve and National Guard Soldiers deploy just as much as active duty Soldiers to accomplish the mission together,” said Montgomery.
Montgomery, who is no stranger to the state of Mississippi, joined the Mississippi National Guard and commissioned as a 2nd Lt. from the University of Mississippi in 1996; proudly represents the second generation in his family to serve in the military; and highlights Sgt. Harrell who is currently serving with the 859th Engineer Company and is the third generation to serve.
