HOHENFELS, Germany- JMRC hosted a three-day Best Warrior Competition. The Best Warrior Competition is a challenge that pushes those who compete to rise above that of an average Soldier, showing the best of the JMRC commissioned officers and enlisted Soldiers. 1st Lt. Raymond Jones and Staff Sgt. Shawn Bailey assigned to 1-4 Infantry Regiment and Pfc. Seth Gordon assigned to 12th Combat Aviation Brigade stood out amongst their peers were announced as winners of this year’s JMRC Best Warrior Competition at Hohenfels, Germany, June 18, 2020.
The Best Warrior Competition test soldiers not only physically, but mentally too. To prepare themselves Soldiers needed to study and be in good shape to show they have what it takes to be crown victors of this year’s competition.
“The most challenging thing was keeping my nerves in check and realizing you just have to do your best, knowing that all the training you did up until this point will pay off,” said Jones.
“To better prepare for the upcoming challenges I would face I made sure I got as physically fit as possible, while also doing a lot of studying,” stated Bailey.
“The Best Warrior Competition is a challenge that you can never be too prepared for,” stated Gordon when asked about the advice he would give future competitors. “Even with all the training I put myself through I feel like there was still room for improvement and that one can never be too prepared.”
To most competitors the competition is about winning and achieving the glory, but for others the competition is not just about winning.
“Winning isn’t all about beating the other competitors, it shows growth as a soldier. It shows that you are better than when you first started the competition,” said by Jones.
