MARINE CORPS AIR STATION FUTENMA, OKINAWA, Japan -- U.S. Marines with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron welcomed and sent a farewell to the incoming and outgoing Marine Corps Air Station Futenma Commanding Officers, June 24.

The nonceremonial change of command event was hosted to give thanks to Col. David Steele and welcome Col. Henry Dolberry, while compiling with the Health Production Condition B’s newly reduced restrictions.

“It’s been a pleasure to meet Col. Dolberry, and I am incredibly excited about where he’s going to take Air Station Futenma,” said Col. Steele the former commanding officer of MCAS Futnema.

The changing of command is a time-honored tradition, which formally symbolizes the continuity of authority as the command is passed from one commander to another.

“Col. Steele has done a phenomenal job here on Futenma,” said Dolberry, the new commanding officer of MCAS Futenma. “When you fall in the footsteps of someone who is that awesome, it is really humbling.”

Dolberry has previously served at MCAS Futenma.

“I look forward to being back with the Futenma family,” said Dolberry. “I am humbled and grateful to be here. I am honored and optimistic of the relationships that will be built here, on base, and with the community.”

The acceptance of the command by the incoming commander confirms total commitment to the Marines and sailors the commander now serves.

“The most important thing is the Marines,” said Dolberry. “We want to make sure we are developing Marines by giving the resources, tools, and time to be successful. I am looking forward to various things for the Marines, our people. I hope that God gives me the ability, and the guidance and endurance to take care of things the right way.”

“It's been wonderful,” said Steele. “The Marines on MCAS Futenma are the lifeblood of this installation. They do a tremendous job, and I am so thankful for them and what they do each and every day. I couldn't be prouder of their efforts, and it's been humbling to watch over the last two years.”

MCAS Futenma operates, maintains, and sustains support to Marine Corps Forces Pacific and follow-on U.S., joint, combined, and allied forces in order the respond to contingencies and deter aggression by providing service support and facilities for training and combat readiness.
