SAN DIEGO – Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) hosted a memorial service at the hospital's flag pole July 7.
The memorial service was held to honor Ens. John Grider, an F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine student who passed away after an accident July 2. Corresponding memorial services were held at Navy training installations around the country at the same time.
Grider, from Stockton, Calif., graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2010. He served as a chief engineer and qualified nuclear submarine officer aboard USS Louisville (SSN 724), and as an assistant professor of naval science at Auburn University prior to enrolling at Uniformed Services University for medical school.
NMCSD’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training, and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians, and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
