By the end of fiscal year 2020, the Department of Defense (DoD) Information Analysis Centers (IAC) program will have facilitated a record number of research and development (R&D) projects, in collaboration with more DoD organizations, than previous fiscal years.
The IAC program, the analysis arm of the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC), is staffed with scientists and engineers who synthesize scientific and technical information to create actionable knowledge for technically trained managers, scientists, and engineers in DoD. The program offers expertise in technical areas of significant DoD interest through quick, flexible and low-cost research services to DoD laboratories, acquisition organizations, and Combatant Commands.
This year, the IAC program has put $2.104 billion to work on nearly 300 R&D contracts and awarded over 90 new R&D contracts. The IAC program provided R&D services to over 500 DoD organizations and added 15,000 scientific and technical documents to DTIC’s repository.
“The relevance of DTIC’s IAC program to the Department's overall research posture, particularly in modernization areas, is more apparent every year,” said Thomas Gillespie, director of the IAC program. I think our team, partnering with the Air Force, has done a remarkable job this year in hitting new records for this well-established program.”
The IAC program helps reduce duplication of research, saving millions of dollars by matching new customer requirements to ongoing research efforts. The program has become increasingly integral to the DoD research community by utilizing best practice acquisitions methods, maintaining low costs, emphasizing speed to award, and covering the full range of DoD research interests.
DTIC collects, disseminates, and analyzes scientific and technical information to rapidly and reliably deliver knowledge that propels development of the next generation of warfighter capabilities. DTIC is the central repository for DoD’s body of 4.6M scientific and technical records. For more information about DTIC, visit https://discover.dtic.mil/.
