KABUL, Afghanistan — Joint Afghan and International Security Forces searched a series of buildings on Aug. 23, in Paktya and Wardak provinces in order to disrupt their supply lines and improvised explosive device-making operations.
In Paktya, the joint force searched a series of buildings in the remote mountains of Jadran District in search of Haqqani militants. The search was conducted without incident and two suspected militants were detained.
In Wardak province, an Afghan-led force also searched compounds near the village of Badam Kalay in the Nirkh District thought to be used by a Taliban IED element. Two suspected militants were detained in a search conducted without incident.
There were no Afghan, International Security Force or civilian casualties during either incident.
The IED is the insurgents' weapon of choice and they constantly seek to set up IED operations wherever possible within the country. Afghan and International Security Forces continue to combine skills and resources to disrupt IED attacks and protect the Afghan people from undue harm.
ISAF is a key component of the international community's engagement in Afghanistan, assisting the Afghan authorities in providing security and stability and creating the conditions for reconstruction and development.
