AL ASAD AIR BASE, Iraq - Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 24 recently completed the construction and delivery of a dozen armored tactical crow's nests for Forward Operating Bases and Combat Outposts throughout the Al Anbar province.
The project required more than twenty personnel from Charlie Company to complete. The crow's nests utilized ballistic glass and steel plating to ensure the protection of the service members manning them.
Each structure was built in the pre-fabrication yard at Camp RJ, aboard Al Asad Air Base. Once the buildings were finished, Alfa Company personnel and the Convoy Security Element teams delivered the finished products to their final destinations.
Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 24 is headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama. It is a reserve unit, with home detachments located in the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and West Virginia. NMCB 24 began its second deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the spring of 2009. Currently, it is headquartered at Al Asad Air Base, Al Anbar province, Iraq.
