AL ASAD, Iraq — The 321st Sustainment Brigade cased their unit colors during a ceremony held here Aug. 15 in preparation for their redeployment to the U.S.
The 321st arrived in Iraq and assumed its mission in April, and has since been responsible for many logistics movements throughout Multi-National Forces-West.
"You ran over 1,500 sustainer convoys," said Col. Samuel R. Bethel, the commander of the 321st, to his troops. "The 321st is comprised of more than 2,800 Soldiers and civilians."
Brig. Gen. Paul Wentz, the commander of the 13th Sustainment Command, Expeditionary, attended the ceremony.
"For the past six months, the 321st has been providing excellent logistics support," said Wentz.
Bethel ended his comments with a final command to his troops, "Stay safe."
The 321st deployed in support of Operation Iraq Freedom Jan. 27, from its home in Louisiana.
The brigade's responsibilities will be taken over by the 10th Sustainment Brigade, which has been providing logistics support across Multi-National Division-Baghdad since November 2008, and the 41st Brigade Combat Team. With the acquisition of the 321st's responsibilities, the 10th SB will be supplying MNF-West, along with the 10th's recent addition, the 751st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion.
