VICTORY BASE CAMP, Iraq — On Aug. 8, two companies of the 260th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade received recognition for their year-long deployment to Iraq.
Two separate ceremonies were held for Delta and Echo Companies, both Texas National Guard companies from the 949th CSSB, who fell under the leadership of the 10th Sustainment Brigade during their tour.
"I can't thank you enough for your service," said Lt. Col. Joseph Dixon, the commander of the 260th.
Both companies provided convoy security for ground logistics movements around Iraq, a job that earned them more than 200 awards, including 10 Bronze Star Medals and two Combat Action Badges.
"It's nice to get recognized like this," said Staff Sgt. Benito Gonzales, an assistant convoy commander with Delta Co., and a native of San Antonio. "My Soldiers worked hard the past year, they deserve this."
The two companies will be returning home shortly, an event that the troops are eagerly awaiting.
"I can't wait to get back," said Spc. Jose Z. Gomez, a mechanic with Echo Co. and native of Lubbock, Texas.
