SETAF-AF, Djibouti Armed Forces leaders meet, discuss SFAB

VICENZA, Italy – Maj. Gen. Andrew M. Rohling, the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa commander, visited U.S. Soldiers at Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa on Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2. Rohling also met with representatives of the Djibouti Armed Forces (FAD).

During the meeting, Rohling commended the FAD leadership for hosting U.S. Soldiers at Camp Lemonnier, and discussed future training that would strengthen relationships between FAD and SETAF-AF personnel.

Rohling also discussed the FAD’s Rapid Intervention Battalion’s progress. A team from the 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigade is collaborating with the RIB leadership to develop the capability to rapidly respond to humanitarian and security crises in Djibouti and increase readiness. He received a brief on the RIB’s training progress, and witnessed a small unit exercise, demonstrating the RIB’s readiness.

In Djibouti, the SFAB team executed a restructured program of instruction for building capacity and proficiency in the RIB. The new approach emphasizes small unit leader decision making in tactical settings, as well as the RIB leadership’s increased proficiency in designing and executing their own training for their subordinate units.
