Information on new Corona regulations and vaccinations

In Wiesbaden, 1,367 people - mainly in nursing homes and clinics - have been vaccinated against the coronavirus (as of Tuesday, January 6, 11 a.m.). The vaccination center in the Rhein Main Congress Center (RMCC) will remain closed to the public until Tuesday, 19 January. The city's administrative staff has also adopted measures that are based on the requirements of the federal-state decisions.

On Tuesday, 5 January, the Federal Government and the government of the German states agreed on new Corona rules. What this means for Wiesbaden in detail depends on how those decisions will be implemented at the Hessen state level. Despite from that, on Wednesday, 6 January, the city’s administrative staff decided to extend the general decrees "Prohibition of access in hospitals", "Restrictions on visits to old people's and nursing homes" and "compulsory masks in busy areas" until Sunday, 31 January. The visitor restrictions in old people's and nursing homes will be adapted to the requirements of the federal-state decisions. People living in homes were previously allowed to be visited by a maximum of two people a maximum of two times per calendar week for one hour per day. Starting Monday, 11 January, only a maximum of one person will be allowed to visit. It is not yet clear whether the masks will still be mandatory in elementary schools and in the area of the Berufsschulzentrum. However, the general decree "Luisenplatz" expires, because the street lights there will be taken down.

This general decree regulated details of the mask obligation and a ban on alcohol consumption in that areas. According to the general rules, the wearing of masks is only mandatory at the bus stop “Luisenplatz”.
The area “Platte” remains open for sledding and walking. However, as soon as the on-site parking lot is full, it will be closed in the future. "In addition to that area, there are many other beautiful destinations around Wiesbaden for walking, such as the “Eiserne Hand”, the “Schläferskopf” or the “Kellerskopf”," explained Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende and Mayor and Health Department Director Dr. Oliver Franz. They appeal to the citizens to not only go to the Platte and also to always adhere the minimum distance and hygiene rules in the open air. There are numerous parking lots in the city area, from which you can reach wooded areas and enjoy the snow during walks. An overview map will be published on the website wiesbaden.de before the weekend, says Andreas Kowol, the transport department chief. Kowol also points out that people can also use the existing bus lines as an alternative to the car to avoid finding a parking space. However, they should not forget the mask requirement in buses and at the stops.

In view of the needs of families and in particular the best interests of the children, the childcare services are not expected to be closed. However, the state government urges all parents to use childcare services only when there is an urgent need. Lord Mayor Mende and Social Affairs Secretary Christoph Manjura welcome this approach: "We think it is right that there is no ban on accessing Kindergarten facilities. We are aware that Kindergarten, day care and primary school care will be much more used again after the break. We really understanding for this. At the same time, we are very grateful to all parents who have completely or partially taken over childcare since mid-December and have organized their lives in various ways. However, we also know that many parents are unable to do this for professional reasons."

The Public Order Office (Ordnungsamt) points out that catering establishments are required to package their food and beverages for delivery or collection in a manner suitable for transporting them home. Food and beverages may not be sold for direct consumption on site in accordance with the requirements of the Corona Contact and Restriction Ordinance. The regulation also prohibits the consumption of alcohol in public spaces all day.

So far, the state of Hessen has not announced the start of the vaccination center. However, the city of Wiesbaden expects the vaccination center in the RMCC to open on Tuesday, 19 January, to people with a pre-scheduled vaccination date. Starting Tuesday, 12 January, people from the first priority group will be able to register with the state for their personal vaccination appointment. The state will inform in a letter about the details of the appointment. Citizens are asked not to show up at the vaccination center without an appointment. The state informs online about the vaccinations under www.hessen.de/fuer-buerger/corona-in-hessen/fragen-und-antworten-zur-impfkoordination. In order to prevent citizens from receiving several letters from different senders, the city of Wiesbaden does not send an information letter to citizens over the age of 80.

The Hesse State Police reiterates that criminals are taking advantage of the fear of the Corona virus in many ways. Citizens should be careful when fake employees of public authorities or companies ring their doorbell. Vaccination teams don't just come by unannounced.

The city and the fire department are asking people not to call 112 if they have questions about the coronavirus. The health department can be reached by phone at (0611) 312828; Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The employees of the Hessen-wide Corona hotline can answer questions about health and quarantine daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on (0800) 5554666. Further questions, concerns and information about the Corona virus will also be answered at (0800) 5554666 Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Up-to-date information on the topic of Corona is also available at wiesbaden.de/coronavirus.
