Press release of the city of Wiesbaden, 19 JAN 2021

Due to the still high number of Corona cases, the cemetery administration of the state capital Wiesbaden had already limited the number of mourners at funerals in Wiesbaden cemeteries and on the burial forest “Terra Levi” to a maximum of 25 people on 28 December 2020. Unfortunately, in the first weeks of the new year, this 25-person rule has been exceeded repeatedly.
This was especially drastic at two funerals at the South Cemetery, where more than 60 mourners appeared. "We are aware that during such emotional events such as funerals, it is difficult to limit the number of people," said Andreas Kowol, the director of green spaces. "However, these restrictions are necessary right now in order to not expose the mourners, but also our staff and other persons involved in the funeral, to an uncontrolled risk of infection."
In order to keep the infections in Wiesbaden cemeteries and funeral halls under control, the following regulations went into effect with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020 and continue to exist:
- On the cemetery grounds and inside the funeral halls, a distance of at least 1.5 meters between persons must be observed at all time
- In order to comply with the distance regulations in the funeral halls, the maximum number of admitted mourners was adapted to the local conditions of the respective funeral hall. A detailed list of all Wiesbaden funeral halls with the maximum number of seats allowed can be found on the website www.friedhöfe-wiesbaden.de
- Access to the funeral hall is only permitted with a mouth-nose covering. Hands must be disinfected before entering the funeral hall.
- During the funeral, there is a general mask requirement in the funeral hall (while seated) as well as outdoors.
- Remember the cough and sneezing etiquette
- In order to participate in a funeral, it is mandatory to provide personal contact information. The data must be entered by the respective funeral company in the known lists, which are then handed over to the cemetery administration before the funeral.
- Communal singing as well as brass music are forbidden in the funeral hall.
- The instructions of the staff of the cemetery department must be followed.
- The Department of Cemetery Management of the state capital Wiesbaden asks all those affected by these regulations - first and foremost, of course, the relatives, friends and acquaintances of the deceased who are in mourning - to understand and to comply with these currently necessary measures.
