Soldiers and Airmen with Task Force 164, Florida National Guard, continue to work alongside and in support of civilian partners to help keep Floridians safe.
A group of over 12 service members sprung into action over the weekend to set up a “pop-up” vaccination site for a community in need at the Saint Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church, Orlando, Fla. On Saturday, January 23, 2021, Soldiers set up the vaccination site at the church and by Sunday were open and ready to provide administrative and logistical support to providers vaccinating the at-risk community. Their efforts led to 500 doses of the vaccine being administered to those 65 years and older in one day.
“It is extremely rewarding to help this community in need,” said Lt. Col. Roberto J. Demarquez, task force region 46 commander.
Several accolades on the Soldiers’ efforts were given from local elected officials, to include: Regina I. Hill, Orlando Commissioner, district 5; Kamia L. Brown, State Representative, district 45; Daisy Morales, State Representative, district 48, and Bryan Nelson, Mayor or Apopka.
