U.S. Marines with 2d Marine Division conduct an Individual Protective Equipment Confidence Exercise on Camp Lejeune, N.C., Jan. 28, 2021. Chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) training is an annual training event that every Marine must complete. The training is instructed by a Marine Corps CBRN specialist, whose job is to instill the basic skills related to chemical and biological warfare including, hazard prediction, contamination avoidance and decontamination practices.
The Marines rehearsed donning and clearing their M50 Joint Service General Purpose Masks in a contaminated environment, and received instruction on how to react after a notional CBRN attack. The training provided the Marines with proper understanding on how to use their issued gear while increasing their confidence in using the equipment. The training the Marines acquire allows them to conduct combat operations in the most austere conditions and environments at any moment.
