Lieutenant Colonel Jaydee Burns is the first U.S. Air Force reservist to fill in the role of Deputy Operations Group Commander for Air Force Global Strike Command. Coming from Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, he became a member of Team Minot in November 2020. Since leaving the Air Force three years ago as an active duty member with the rank of major, Burns transitioned to the Air Force reserves, promoting to Lieutenant Colonel.
“Most of our mission training is boots on the ground, it happens right out in the missile field,” said Burns. “It’s a unique opportunity for me because I’ve done that for 15 years, 18 if you count the reserves, working to support the mission set. This gives us an opportunity to lead and help with the leadership of the tactical squadrons, which is the first one to reach out as a reservist and fill in this role and try to cut a pathway forward for the future of our reserve 13N (missiliers) community.”
As a civilian, Burns works as a configuration manager for the nuclear weapons system for Air Force Nuclear Command, Control and Communications Center at Barksdale AFB.
In his free time, Burns enjoys going on hikes and staying up to date with beekeeping. “I try to get out on weekends, because just like moving around in the Air Force, I think it’s important that we get out and enjoy the community that we’re part of as much as we can in a COVID environment,” said Burns.
